PIM initiative

PIM Initiative for Mediterranean Small Islands Since 2006, the Conservatoire du Littoral (French coastal protection agency) have coordinated an international program dedicated to the promotion and assistance to the management of micro- insular territories, called the PIM Initiative, co-funded by the French GEF (FFEM), the French Water Agency and the City of Marseille. The PIM initiative aims to exchange and share knowledge and know-how necessary for the emergence of good management practices of these exceptional areas.

Two field missions have been organized in September 2012 and May 2013 in the framework of PIM Initiative, in order to improve the naturalist knowledge on this unknown territory and to define recommendation in term of site management. A study on bird population of the island has been realized at the occasion of the 2nd mission.
Etude_faune_mammalienne_Sazani
La détection de la présence d’espèces mammaliennes a été tentée par deux méthodes : le piégeage dévolu aux micromammifères et l’observation direct et la recherche systématique d’indices de présence (terriers, fesces, fruits et graines rongés, frottis, gratis…) pour les mammifères de plus grande taille.

Au cours des deux missions sur l’ile (Septembre 2012 et Mai-Juin 2013), deux autres techniques de recherche des chauves souris ont été mise en place: - la détection ultrasonique. Pour détecter les ultrasons émis par les chauves-souris, le détecteur PETTERSSON D1000X a été utilisé, avec son mode « expansion de temps ». L’analyse des données a nécessité l’utilisation du logiciel Bat Sound 4. - Un filet japonais a été déployé dans l’un des vallons de l’ile en 2013 durant trois nuits....
